Courses we offer

S1-3 BGE

Our S1 – S3 Broad General Education course is aimed at all students and aims to build upon:

  • Computer literacy
  • Intro to programming
  • Fundamentals of web design
  • Animation
  • Computer safety
  • Intro to databases
  • Robotics

The course is suitable for all who attend RJC.

National 4

Our National 4 course is aimed at students who required an extra step in achieving their National 5 course. We strive to ensure that all students who are taking the National 4 course achieve units as well as the full course award.

This consists of

Building a basic information system and implanting a basic program for unit passes, then the additional of the National 4 Added Value Unit to complete the course.

National 5

Our National 5 course consists of a practical element of coursework provided by the SQA as well as a 1.5 hour theory exam.

Topics covered at National 5 level are:

Computer systems – where candidates explore “under the hood” of a computer and learn how computers work.

Web design – candidates build and test their own websites. This also includes a small introduction to Javascript.

Database management – Candidates will learn good databases management technique as well as how to build and design databases for a variety of users.

Computer Programming- In this unit candidates will learn how to design, implement and test programs they have created. At this level candidates will also be expected to have an understanding of the software development cycle.

Higher

Our Higher course consists of a practical element of coursework provided by the SQA as well as a 2 hour theory exam.

Topics covered at Higher level are:

Computer systems – where candidates explore “under the hood” of a computer and learn how computers work.

Web design – candidates build and test their own websites. This also includes a larger portion of Javascript.

Database management – Candidates will learn good databases management technique as well as how to build and design databases for a variety of users.

Computer Programming- In this unit candidates will learn how to design, implement and test programs they have created. At this level candidates will also be expected to have an understanding of various software design techniques, testing techniques and development of modular programs.
